Rathbone Investment Management (Rathbones) confirms that its third Annual Charity Symposium will be held on 12 September 2012 at the British Museum, London. Building on the success of previous years, the event will include a keynote address from Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, former England Rugby International and founder of the Dallaglio Foundation.
The Annual Charity Symposium will provide a wide-ranging and informative discussion of key issues facing charities: the impact of inflation on global food prices; the regulatory framework and expected changes resulting from the Charities Act Review; and opportunities for delivering income in a low return environment.
Alongside Dallaglio, speakers at this year’s symposium include Mark Spofforth, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, James Codrington, charity investment director at Rathbone Investment Management and Mark Nicholls, chairman of Rathbone Brothers Plc.
Ivo Clifton, head of charities at Rathbones said, “The last 12 months have been very challenging for charities. Charity trustees’ main priority is to secure the maximum income from their investments and protect them against risk but this has proved difficult to achieve in markets which have mirrored the tumultuous ups and downs of 2011. In this year’s Charity Symposium, we will outline the methods we’ve employed to address this volatility and explain how charities can use these to generate the income they need.
“As well as financial challenges, the legislative landscape has been trying. We will also explore how this landscape has altered and help trustees make sense of the potential impact of the Charities Act Review. Designed to invigorate thought, Rathbones’ Annual Charity Symposium reflects our ongoing commitment to providing a high quality and fully rounded investment service for our charity clients.”
