“We need to introduce measures which improve diet and increase levels of physical activity," said the Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary.
Commenting on the release of figures showing that more than one in five children start school overweight, Norman Lamb said:
“These figures show that there is still an enormous threat to our children’s health from obesity.
“While the Government claims to be taking action it is obvious that the current strategy isn’t working.
“With so many children starting school already obese it’s increasingly clear that we need to look beyond the playground walls to get our children active.
“We need to introduce measures which improve diet and increase levels of physical activity in children. Until we are more successful at this, the obesity timebomb will keep ticking.”
