“Today we have outlined our commitment to dealing with Labour’s toxic legacy by ending child poverty and reducing the inequality gap."
Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference today reiterated that despite necessary cuts to tackle the deficit, we will use our position in Government to promote and implement policies that will protect, assist and empower the most vulnerable.
We are committed to prioritising education and the continual development for every child and adult, particularly the most disadvantaged in society, whilst promoting a rebalancing of our economy to create a fairer tax system with new jobs, wealth and opportunities spread to every region of the UK.
Commenting, Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Treasury Policy Committee, Stephen Williams said:
“Liberal Democrats believe that fairness must be at the heart of all government policy. We will seek ensure that in these tough times, those with the broadest shoulders bear their fair share of the burden.
“We recognise that as well as dealing with the deficit, we need to get the economy moving by investing in education, training and sustainable development, as well as getting banks lending to support small and medium businesses.
“Today we have outlined our commitment to dealing with Labour’s toxic legacy by ending child poverty and reducing the inequality gap. We want to ensure that, despite the recession and the deficit we inherited, we will not see the emergence of a lost generation.”
