Liberal Democratic Party: Fit for work examinations in Scotland need investigation says Carmichael

“I have been concerned for some time now about the nature and professionalism of some of the so-called medical examinations," said the Liberal Democrat Shadow Scotland Secretary.

Commenting on reports that people with health problems are inappropriately being told they are fit for work following assessments, Alistair Carmichael said:

“There is not an MP in Scotland who cannot tell you from his or her own constituency caseload that doctors are being used by the Department of Work and Pensions to cut the number of people on benefits.

“I have been concerned for some time now about the nature and professionalism of some of the so-called medical examinations that have been carried out in my constituency.

“This is something which now requires a thorough investigation which is independent of the Government and the companies it employs.”
