Liberal Democratic Party: Government completely unprepared for the snow says Baker

Press Release   •   Jan 13, 2010 10:33 GMT

“Ministers were clearly completely unprepared for the snow and are now running around like headless chickens," said the Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary.

Commenting on Lord Adonis’ statement that councils should cut the amount of grit they use by 50%, Norman Baker said:

“It is misleading of the Government to say yesterday that councils should cut the grit they use by a quarter only to come back 24 hours later and say it should be by a half.

“Will they come back tomorrow and say they should cut by three quarters?

“Ministers were clearly completely unprepared for the snow and are now running around like headless chickens.

“With Alastair Campbell giving evidence to the Chilcott inquiry today, Labour clearly felt it was a good day for salting away bad news.”
