"We will miss completely the target to get one million more adults into sport by 2013," Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
Commenting on today’s Sport England survey, which shows a 0.2% increase in the proportion of adults playing sport (from 16.4% to 16.6%), Don Foster said:
“Once again we see poor levels of participation in sport, with little progress towards getting more people active. There has even been a decrease in the number of women participating.
“At this rate, we will miss completely the target to get one million more adults into sport by 2013.
“With preparations for the London Games on the last lap, the Government has a lot of catching up to do if they are to achieve their aim of getting more people playing sport.”
