"On many measures, Britain is less equal today than it was when Tony Blair was elected in 1997," said the Liberal Democrat Shadow Schools Secretary.
Commenting on the Government’s plans to promote social mobility in response to Alan Milburn’s report into the issue, Liberal Democrat Shadow Schools Secretary, David Laws said:
“After 13 years in power, Labour has failed to improve social mobility in this country. On many measures, Britain is less equal today than it was when Tony Blair was elected in 1997.
“The key to opening up professional careers to more people is raising standards in our schools.
“That’s why the Liberal Democrats are committed to giving schools the money they need to cut class sizes and provide extra support, giving all children, regardless of their background, a fair start in life.”
