“This medal is a small token of appreciation for the huge debt that everyone in Britain owes to the brave members of our Armed Services, past and present."

Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference today backed plans for all service veterans to be awarded a National Defence Medal.

Commenting, Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Committee on International Affairs, Tim Farron said:

“This medal is a small token of appreciation for the huge debt that everyone in Britain owes to the brave members of our Armed Services, past and present.

“The Queen has already awarded a similar medal to veterans in Australia. It is only right that we honour the sacrifice of our service men and women in the same way.”
