Press Release   •   Oct 14, 2010 12:31 BST

“Sir Phillip Green’s review has lain bare Labour’s decade of waste and the Government has shown a welcome commitment to eliminating needless spending on consultants."

Commenting on the report on Labour’s consultant wage bill published today [14th October] by the National Audit Office, Co-chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional and Political Reform, Mark Williams said:

“This report highlights how Labour used consultants as a crutch without having any idea of how they could get better value from public services.

“Sir Phillip Green’s review has lain bare Labour’s decade of waste and the Government has shown a welcome commitment to eliminating needless spending on consultants.

“It is vital that we identify wasteful spending so that we can control the deficit. Cracking down on the consultant culture will play an important role in saving money.”
