Liberal Democratic Party: Miliband & Balls must apologise for trampling on civil liberties – Brake

Press Release   •   Oct 08, 2010 15:30 BST

"Ed Balls, just like Ed Miliband, voted for all Labour’s attempts to steal our hard won civil liberties, not least ID cards and 90-day detention without charge."

Commenting on Ed Miliband’s appointment of Ed Balls as Shadow Home Secretary, Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Committee for Home Affairs Tom Brake said:   “Ed Balls, just like Ed Miliband, voted for all Labour’s attempts to steal our hard won civil liberties, not least ID cards and 90-day detention without charge. “Balls must make clear whether he now believes these were mistakes. If Labour really wants to move on from its past Miliband and Balls need to apologise for the years they spent trampling on our freedoms. “Alan Johnson dismissively claimed Lib Dems were ‘obsessed’ with civil liberties, while Miliband now claims he’ll protect them. Is Balls with his leader or his new shadow chancellor?”
