Liberal Democratic Party: Tom Brake: Lib Dems restoring hard-won British liberties

Press Release   •   Feb 15, 2011 11:10 GMT

“Today’s announcement brings to fruition proposals which were first drawn up by Nick Clegg four years ago, and demonstrates our commitment to rolling back unnecessary and intrusive laws introduced by Labour."

Commenting on the publication of the Protection of Freedoms Bill, Co-Chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs and Justice, Tom Brake said:

“Today’s announcement brings to fruition proposals which were first drawn up by Nick Clegg four years ago, and demonstrates our commitment to rolling back unnecessary and intrusive laws introduced by Labour.

“We have rebalanced the system to protect people’s safety in a way which is proportionate and will put an end to the unnecessary scrutiny of law-abiding people.

“This bill marks a return to common sense government. After years of campaigning, Liberal Democrats are now restoring hard-won British liberties that were lost under the last government.”
