Magma Ceramics & Catalysts manufacturing facility in Brazil has, this week, successfully added BS OHSAS 18001:2007 to its ISO 9001:2008 certification, gained earlier this year.
The internationally recognised standard for Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems in the workplace, assesses occupational health and safety management, emergency preparedness and response, awareness, competence and on-going training and improvement. The audit and accreditation was carried out independently by BSI, which itself is recognised globally.
This achievement demonstrates Magma’s dedication to its core values of manufacturing high quality but cost effective products, combined with a commitment to integrated management procedures and a desire for continuous improvement. This latest achievement should enable Magma to control its OH&S risks and further improve its performance in relation to safety at it’s site in Brazil.
Scott Ridley, Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Manager at Magma, commented: “Occupational health, safety and safe working systems are crucial to our business and this internationally recognised standard helps us formally link all our activities to ensure the best principles and practices are observed. We are extremely proud to add this to the list of certifications that we hold across the group, and aim to achieve ISO 14001 at our Brazil facility in the near future.”
Currently, Magma’s UK operation holds ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001:2007 - this latest accreditation demonstrates the company’s commitment to achieving a high level of accreditation at each of its sites. Magma’s facility in Brazil is now aims to achieve ISO 14001 to complete its hat trick, and its Vietnamese manufacturing facility is anticipated to follow suit in 2014.
