Walk the Coast to Coast Path - A challenging walk across England in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright: 17 days walking/18 nights’ accommodation

Devised by author and illustrator Alfred Wainwright 40 years ago, the 200 mile Coast to Coast walk from St Bees on the Cumbrian coast to Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Sea shore has become one of Britain’s most famous walks and is described as ‘a delightful slice of British scenery, history and culture.’ Covering three of England’s great National Parks, it starts with a spectacular walk along the red cliffs of St. Bees Head overlooking the Irish Sea before heading inland towards Ennerdale, the first of many tranquil lakes in the natural watery wonderland that is the Lake District National Park.

Having experienced some of England’s best high level hikes, lake shore walks and stunning vistas, the trail continues into the stone walled valleys of Yorkshire Dales before crossing the heather-covered plateaux of North Yorkshire Moors and descending into the characterful small fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay. Described as ‘challenging’, the trail does have some fairly steep gradients, yet every mile is ‘walkable’ with no mountaineering or climbing skills necessary.

Load Off Your Back (01707 386726, www.loadoffyourback.co.uk) offers an 18 night Walk The Coast to Coast Path self guided walking holiday from £1095.00 per person including 18 nights B&B accommodation plus maps and luggage transfers along the way.

Walk Offa's Dyke Path A walk through an ancient fortified borderland in Wales:

16 days walking/17 nights’ accommodation

The 177 mile long Offa’s Dyke Path winds along the English-Welsh border from Prestatyn in the north of Wales to Chepstow in the south following a 1200 year old earthwork barrier built by Offa, the warlord King of Mercia, to protect his kingdom from his rivals in what is now Wales. Rich in legend and history and one of Britain’s longest paths, it covers a diverse terrain through villages and woodland, open panoramic meadow paths, canal tow-paths and old drovers’ roads with trails alongside the rivers Severn and Wye, through the beauty of the Vale of Clwyd, hills of Shropshire and over the Black Mountains.

Interspersed with wonderful viewpoints, market towns, remote villages, ancient castles and forts, the trail allows fascinating glimpses into the history, mythology and sheer beauty of this border country. The terrain of the Offa’s Dyke path differs considerably, however it is generally well signposted and maintained. Rarely flat, the trail crosses hills, forests and moors and therefore strenuous in parts.

Load Off Your Back (01707 386726, www.loadoffyourback.co.uk) offers a 17 night Walk Offa's Dyke Path self guided holiday from £1097.00 per person including 17 nights B&B accommodation plus maps and luggage transfers along the way.

In addition to the above walks, Load Off Your Back offer a selection of 19 self-guided walking holidays in England, Wales and Scotland with a choice of flexible durations ranging from 3 days to 20 days with lots of options for a shorter Easter and May Bank Holiday break. http://www.loadoffyourback.co.uk/
