Laboratorios Sanfer led the Mexico adult mouth care market in 2012, achieving a 42% value share thanks to Kank-A, a canker sore treatment product, and to its product line Kin, which includes medicated toothpastes and oral rinses. Ranked second was Laboratorios Grossman, with a 35% share thanks to Vantal, an analgesic and anti-inflammatory product.
Periodontal disease and gingivitis are common amongst the Mexican population, as they are side-effects of diabetes, which is extremely prevalent in the country. Nevertheless, mouth care is not one of the health priorities of the population, so even if people have mouth problems, they rarely purchase any medicine to treat them. However, there is a potential market if companies are willing to invest in advertising campaigns convincing the public of the health benefits of such products.
In the forecast period, adult mouth care is expected to see a constant value CAGR of 4% to reach Mx$368 million by 2017. Laboratories will continue to allocate their advertising resources to products such as toothbrushes, toothpastes and oral rinses.
