Mitie reveals the corporate Christmas tree trends for 2017

21 December 2017

It’s been a busy festive season for Mitie’s interior landscaping business, with over 400 trees sourced and decorated using 48,000 baubles and over 20km of lights. So, with just four sleeps till Christmas, Mitie looks back as this year’s Corporate Christmas Tree Trends.

Size really does matter – The average Christmas tree stands at seven-foot tall, although installations have ranged from tiny two-foot table trees to a strapping 33-foot giant.

Replica rather than real – There’s been a marked increase in companies looking to rent replica trees, with almost three quarters looking to fake it, up from around half last year. They have become the popular option for a range of reasons such as no needle drop, shape symmetry, flame retardant materials, longer lasting and they offer a sustainable option.

Keeping colour simple – Less is more when it comes to colour. More companies have opted for silver or gold. Mitie’s ’snowfall’ range has also been popular which blends muted tones of silver, white and aqua.

Tinsel is off trend – More companies have forgone tinsel and opted to stick with baubles, drops and snowflakes. One major City client this year moved away from a highly decorated style to a more naturalistic look with simple white lights, pinecones, twigs and red berries.

Stars top the tree – This year more companies are opting for stars than any other shape. However, other interesting tree toppers include baubles clusters, pine cones and sprayed fern leaves.

Bob Capel, Operations Manager of Mitie’s Interior Landscapes business, said:

“It’s a pleasure to deliver Christmas each year for our clients and add that extra special sparkle to their celebrations, be it a delicate miniature tree or breath taking giant Norwegian spruce. This year the Christmas fairies looked after us as it snowed on the last day of our install schedule – just to add to the festive feel.”
