This coming Fall, the iOS 6 will be launched by Apple. Unfortunately, if you own the 4th generation iPhone (iPhone 4) you will not be able to use the iOS 6 Maps’ turn-by-turn directions or its Flyover application. The said features are limited to iPhone 4S and newer Apple devices only.
Why? It is because the iPhone 4 and the older iPhone 3GS lacks the ability to show iOS 6 Maps’ turn-by0turn navigation and the new Flyover feature. If you think about it, this is sort of strange since the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS are compatible with the new Apple Operating System the iOS 6.
If you check out Apple’s official website, you will see the Maps new preview and the iOS 6. There you will find a note that says, the Flyover and turn-by-turn navigation features are only available on the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. They also said that there are other features that may or may not be available in all areas or countries.
Added to this, Siri is also limited to devices which offer Apple’s voice driven software. Currently, only the iPhone 4S is equipped with the virtual assistant Siri. The third generation iPad is said to receive this feature together with the launch of the iOS 6.
The iOS 6’s biggest feature is the new native Maps app and its turn-by-turn navigation. This feature was created from scratch by Apple. Apple no longer uses Google Maps. The said feature includes spoken directions, real-time traffic information, and 3D views. Apple also stated the following: “As you approach a turn, Maps speaks directions, so you can keep your eyes on the road”. “In addition, the screen turns to 3D perspective view of the road ahead. Large signs and arrows superimposed over the image shows you which way to go and how long it’s going to take to get there – even if your screen is locked.”
Please note that only the latest hardware will get complete access to the new Flyover feature. This said feature utilizes advanced 3D mapping data. The Flyover feature will only be available in cities where 3D models are available. This feature will give you detailed recreations that are rendered in real-time.
