Mark joins Norland as its critical product director - a newly created role in which he will be responsible for maintaining Norland’s leadership in facilities management in critical environments such as data-centres and other “zero downtime” environments. Previously Mark worked as a director and data centre analyst for the Uptime Institute, delivering services and Uptime Tier Certifications, throughout the EMEA regions. He has also held senior data centre positions at Dell, Intel, Cable & Wireless and Global Switch.

Tony Smith, managing director of Norland’s CES division said: “Mark brings a wealth of experience in data centre operations management and international facilities management in critical environments. He will be instrumental in defining Norland’s strategic objectives and maintaining our 25% annual growth.”

Norland is a leader in maintaining the complex infrastructure of leading banking and financial institutions as well as manufacturing facilities, data centres, research centres and broadcasting production. It is renowned in this market for reducing operational risk by up to 80% via its critical environment risk management methodology called CERM.

Mark said: “I look forward to demonstrating the operational benefits that Norland offers and taking the CES way of working into new sectors. Norland were key members of the initial coalition which helped to develop the Stamp of Approval by which the Uptime Institute give accreditation to data centre management and operations. Norland is in a pivotal position to define the standard to which high-availability data centre services are delivered.”

Mark is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered IT professional and committee member of the BCS Data Centre Special Interest Group. He is also a contributing author for the best practices supplement of the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres - a guide which seeks to identify and encourage best practice energy efficiency within data centres.    Mark is a rugby enthusiast in his spare time and likes to indulge in a number of outdoor pursuits including canoeing, mountain-biking and hill-walking.
