North American weight loss market to reach a value of $139.5 billion by 2017

The North American weight loss market has been forecast to reach a value of $139.5 billion by 2017, increasing from a total of $104 billion at the end of 2012.

In Canadian hospitals, a total of 2,385 bariatric procedures were carried out in 2008-2009; it represented a 92% increase from 2004-2005.
