Outsourcing: The key to success 09

Press Release   •   Jul 01, 2009 17:02 BST

As public sector spending is squeezed, the Treasury’s Operational Efficiency Programme (OEP), which released its final report in April this year, has highlighted outsourcing as key means of enabling local authorities and other public organisations to deliver more and improved services, for less cost.

The conference ‘Outsourcing: The Key to Success 09’ was held to brief the 350 representatives of the public sector on the implications of the OEP and equip them to plan and deliver successful outsourcing arrangements, while avoiding some of the common pitfalls.

There were a range of speakers from both the public and private sectors, all urging the delegates to re-examine the way many of them operate, encouraging them to learn from the findings of the OEP report to drive a major increase in outsourcing, shared services, collaborative procurement and improved estates management.

Mark Denham, John Telling and Alan Williams from Mitie held one of the nine master classes of the day, highlighting the impact of converging political, cultural and economic forces on the way that businesses operate. For the public sector, this includes pressure from the taxpayer to deliver more efficient services, tighter spending restrictions, increasing legislation and the need for energy efficiency.
