Preston, Lancashire December 13th 2015 – Health care professionals throughout the UK and Europe have been recognised and honoured by patients for their exceptional quality of care and treatment. Sponsored by The Pumping Marvellous Foundation, this award acknowledges the value that these health care professionals bring to the treatment of heart failure, improving patient outcomes. Measured by the individual patients’ experience, this award reflects the direct impact these five health care professionals have had in their local communities by producing the highest standard of care for their patients.

Bethan Cowley, Clinical Nurse Specialist for Inherited Cardiac Conditions at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust has been nominated by the patient community to receive a ‘You’re Simply Marvellous’ award. Heart failure patient Julie Bartlett has commended Bethan for her continual diligence and outstanding dedication to heart failure patients in the community.

“I wish everyone could have a Bethan. She’s always there for you to show her support, whether it’s through a hospital visit or by responding to nightly emails. Bethan goes above and beyond what you would expect from a health care professional. She has cared for my brother, my aunt and nieces and we all have nothing but the highest praise for her. This is a great opportunity to truly show our thanks for everything that she has done” says Julie Bartlett, heart failure patient.

As the representative of the UK heart failure patients’ voice,The Pumping Marvellous Foundation emphasises the importance of the patient perspective in recognising and rewarding health care professionals.

“We are delighted that our patient community has chosen Bethan Cowley, Clinical Nurse Specialist for Inherited Cardiac Conditions at the Royal Brompton, to receive this yearly award from the charity. It's so important that patients and their families can work with and operate as a team with their healthcare professional and Bethan Cowley was only one of 5 chosen healthcare professionals across the United Kingdom to be nominated by the charity’s patients. A superb achievement and all 5 of the health care professionals should be proudof themselves”, explains Nick Hartshorne Evans, Founder and CE of The Pumping Marvellous Foundation.

Awards are currently being received by health care professionals this week alongside a personalised commendation letter explaining the reasons behind their selection.

“Congratulations to all the winners. We recognize that there are so many fantastic health care professionals out there and to all those who haven’t won, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your amazing work,” says Angela Graves, Clinical Lead of The Pumping Marvellous Foundation.
