RECCE > London

Press Release   •   Jul 13, 2012 12:00 BST

Recce is a revolutionary location based app that has just released its first city - London, UK.  A fast, stylish, and fun way to explore everything around you in 3D, it takes mapping and location based discovery to a completely new level.  By using a wide range of geographical and location-specific data sources, the app generates high quality, interactive environments on the fly, and brings your surroundings to life in a playful and attractive way.

Available on the Apple App Store for free from today (13th July), Recce is the first release developed by eeGeo Ltd, a UK based startup, with plans to rapidly scale out to other major cities around the world, and eventually cover entire countries and continents.

The app focuses on speed, beauty, and simplicity to allow users to discover and explore what is going on around them right now, and uses real-time updated social signals to help find the coolest places around London.  Recce includes the usual map utility functions, such as live public transport routing, with funky visualisations that are both fun, and faster than any other service.

Once downloaded, the app will store the latest updates on your device, so doesn’t need a 3G or Wi-Fi connection - useful when travelling around London’s Underground, or areas out of mobile network range.  Other features include “my pins”, which allows users to bookmark places when planning a day or night out, to be accessed quickly when on the go.

Created by former Sony Playstation MD - Ian Hetherington, and former Google Engineering Director - Rian Liebenberg, its game-like appearance and user-friendly features make this the quickest and easiest way to find out things to do in London in one fun and entertaining app.

CEO, Hetherington says, "We wanted to recreate a version of the local world where people want to spend time and enjoy themselves.” COO, Liebenberg continued “There's so much information available from such a wide variety of sources, it's becoming hard to cut-through and get to the useful data. Our goal is to bring to life things going on around you in London in a clear and usable way.”

Ian continues: “Our longer term goal is to expose the underlying world as a platform to third party location-based app and game developers, and we’re excited to see what they come up with.”
