Karlstad University is participating for the fifth year in a global racing car project Formula Student. The project aims to design and build a prototype of a racing car with high quality characteristics. In July each year, the car is tested at Silverstone racing track in England in an international competition for students from Universities of Technology worldwide.
Formula Student is a course offered at several of the world's universities. At Karlstad University the project is called the Clear River Racing and each year about 30 students gathered around the project. The major aim is to win the international competition at Silverstone, England in July.
The team around the Clear River Racing has the big task to with creativity and innovation design build a single-seating racing car. The students start from scratch and develops its own concept, which is both designed and manufactured by themselves. The project includes (additional to the creation of the car) also training including project management, marketing and purchasing.
Rydahls assists the project with water jet cutting
For several years now, we use water to process our friction materials. Waterjet gives many advantages compared to conventional processing. It is possible to easily produce complex shapes and achieve tight tolerances. In addition, avoiding the formation of dust that can arise in any other form of processing. Not least, we can also conclude that the method is also cost-competitive.
For Clear River Racing it is about creating small, light fittings for a variety of suspensions of the racing car. This we help the students with. It is an incredible commitment that we encounter from the students, says Anders Jorholm at Rydahls.
