As supermarket giant Sainsbury’s burgeons in a growth surge to rival that of mushrooms in the spring rain, Britons can prepare to cash in over the next three years on 20,000 new supermarket and convenience store jobs.
Making this staggering announcement at a businessmen’s breakfast today, the managing director of Britain’s prestige executive employment consultancy UK Knack Group said, “We have to understand that these positions will be over and above the 13,000 jobs the company has created in the past 24 months; 6000 of those have been in just the third quarter’s trade to the 8th of Jan this year.
“And while you’re collecting statistics, Sainsbury’s has offered permanent work to 2100 of the 20,000 Christmas rush casual staff it took on and who impressed with their attitude and aptitude. This economy is recovering fast, and people who are worth it are being given work. That’s great!”
Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King has commented that store development activity was able to contribute to the creation of a further 3700 jobs, as the retailer created 11 new supermarkets and 13 new convenience stores.
King said, “These new positions will be a whopper of a shot in the arm for towns and cities the length and breadth of the nation. There will be full and part-time slots up for grabs, so there should be some benefit for everyone. There’s more to it, too, than just jobs, which is why we promote our highly vaunted training and apprenticeship programmes.”
