Finding a job in the current economic client is not easy so it is best to apply early- This is exactly what a seven-year-old did back in 2006 when he applied to work for DL Rhodes & Son Ltd.
Nine years ago, Brandon Lee wrote to Nigel Rhodes , director at the firm, asking if he could come to work for the Nottingham based building contractor after he left school. The managing director was so impressed that he replied saying that they would have a chat after Brandon's GCSEs.
Now, nearly a decade on, he has finished his exams and true to his word, Nigel has employed Brandonfour days a week, along with day release at Basford Hall College studying a CITB bricklaying apprenticeship starting in September.
Managing director at DL Rhodes & Son Ltd, Nigel Rhodes, said: “Everyone at DL Rhodes is very impressed with Brandon as his work ethic is second to none, he was already working on Saturdays for us during exam season and the week after he finished them, he was straight on the phone asking for more work and started immediately.”
After enrolling on the two year course at college, Brandon has been assisting DL Rhodes with its Draycott Mill renovation project, helping out with general labouring duties as well as being allowed to lay bricks on site.
Mr Rhodes added: “Brandon has picked up everything that has been asked of him really quickly and I really do believe that he is going to be a fantastic asset to the company. He has showed great promise so far and the bricklayers on site have been really impressed with his bricklaying skills for a 16-year-old. They have all commented on his enthusiasm to join our award winning team.”
This announcement comes just four weeks after DL Rhodes DL Rhodes & Son Ltd beat off fierce competition at the East Midlands Conference Centre to win the award for The Best High Volume New Housing Development in the East Midlands, at the LABC awards.
