Sixth consecutive Gold for Mitie at the 2013 RoSPA Awards

Press release   •   Apr 11, 2013 17:10 BST

Mitie, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company, has had its approach to occupational health and safety recognised in an awards scheme run by the safety charity, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The latest Gold medal award for 2013 comes off the back of five previous victories in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards.

The recognition is testament to a long-established culture of service and safety – born out of investment and continual improvement in training schemes, management information (KPI) systems and effective communication programmes (i.e. Work Safe Home Safe).

Dating back 57 years, the RoSPA Awards scheme is the largest and longest running programme of its kind in the UK.

It recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. The scheme not only looks at accident records, but also entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

This latest RoSPA Gold medal shows that Mitie is continuing to lead the facilities management industry by investing in the health and safety of staff. The focus is beneficial for staff, while reducing costs and protecting the reputation of clients. The majority of awards that RoSPA presents are non-competitive, marking achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Only organisations maintaining high standards can win Gold medals and Mitie is proud to be the recipient of six Gold awards.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said:

“RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Mitie has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award.”

Jeff Hilton, Mitie Facilities Management QHSE Director, said:

“We are really pleased with the behavioural changes we are seeing as we continue to progress our Work Safe Home Safe campaign. Operational managers are leading by example and engaging with our people to achieve robust and practical ways of further improvement of their health and safety, both in and out of work. I am delighted this is also being recognised outside of Mitie with the award of this 6th consecutive Gold award. It’s good for Mitie and great for clients.”
