Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ (SLH) is delighted to announce that after 21 years in business, 2012 marked its best year ever. Reporting an increase of 10% year on year in terms of room nights and 9% in terms of revenue, SLH delivered 341,000 room nights and generated $119 million in revenue.
Not only have reservations and room nights hit an all-time high but the recognition of The Club is also a great success story. In 2012, SLH added 56,000 members to its loyalty club, a 46% growth compared to 2011, making the club 190,000 strong. The activation rate for Club members has also increased by 18% and Club revenue by 38%. The goal for 2013 is to increase the top tiered Club members by over 50%. According to Paul Kerr, CEO for SLH; “this may seem like a lofty goal but with such a great product we’re confident it’s achievable.”
The home website, slh.com is no anomaly with almost 4 million visits in 2012, an impressive 19% year on year increase. Reservations through the site have gone up by 26% and slh.com increased its share of bookings by 15% compared to the previous year. iPad visits, totalling close to 500,000 improved by 167% in 2012 and iPhone visits increased by 132% showing the growing trend towards new technology.
“It’s extraordinary that after over 20 years in the business we’re still managing to exceed the work we’ve done the year before, especially when you consider the current economic climate” said Paul Kerr. “The secret to our success is choice – put simply. With over 520 hotels in more than 70 countries and multiple means of booking, we give the customer the freedom to choose how, where, when and why. Our Club is also a big part of the reason we have so much to celebrate – this year our Club has accounted for 22% of our bookings, which is significant compared to last year.”
It’s been a great year of growth for SLH, having added 63 new hotels to the brand in 2012; 13 in the Americas, 17 in the APAC region and 33 in EMEA. Some of these new hotels are in key areas such as Hawaii, Israel, The Galapagos, Japan, China and Nicaragua. The number of hotels that belong to the brand is consistent with last year at 529.
