It has been confirmed today that whilst most iPad 2 cases that will also fit the iPad 3, the polarity of the magnets in some cases vary so that the auto-sleep / auto-wake function will not work.
This is only the case that cases made in early 2011 will not work.
Online retailer GearZap.com have confirmed that they have tried and tested a few cases, and can confirm that cases from certain brands such as Cygnett will work with both the iPad 2 and the iPad 3.
Upon hearing the news that some of the iPad 3 cases would not work with the sleep function, GearZap announced a new range of covers that would fit both the iPad 2 and the iPad 3.
