Sports Idols reminds fans not to forget the past with legendary sports memorabilia

Press Release   •   Nov 17, 2010 14:02 GMT

Whitstable, Kent, UK (mynewsdesk), 17 November 2010 – Kent based sports memorabilia retailers Sports Idols has gathered a spectacular array of footballing autographs in time for the festive season. Alongside the normal offerings – Wayne Rooney, for example, whose autograph still counts as Manchester United memorabilia despite his attempts to shoot himself in both feet at the end of last month; Steven Gerrard; Cesc Fabregas; Frank Lampard; and Ryan Giggs – Sports Idols has managed to get its hands on an enviable selection of signatures from the old school greats. Liverpool memorabilia offerings now include the signatures of Phil Thompson and Kenny Dalglish, two of the greatest players ever to grace the pitch at Anfield; while Man U and Arsenal memorabilia offer, respectively, Lee Sharpe and Teddy Sheringham, and Dennis Bergkamp. Chelsea faithful will be glad to see the Chelsea memorabilia inclusion of Gianfranco Zola, perhaps the last true stalwart of Stamford Bridge and certainly one of the all time Bridge End fan favourites.

Sports Idols has made a good move, with the inclusion of old time classic sports memorabilia. There are few places where a fan can’t get hold of, say, Manchester United memorabilia including Berbatov, Carrick and Giggsy – but what about Ole Gunnar Soslkjaer, one of the greatest players to have put in super sub appearances for any team in the world? These guys are the stuff of individual club lore and overall footballing legend – the players who scored the important goals, made the memorable saves and put those Big Four clubs up where they are today. What Gooner wouldn’t want Arsenal memorabilia commemorating the reign of the Dutch super striker, or legendary cheeky chappie Ian Wright? What Kop Ender wouldn’t want to add the great player manager Mr Dalglish to his or her collection of Liverpool memorabilia? Kenny Dalglish did more than any other modern player to cement Liverpool’s status as European championship dominating dynamos; just as Gianfranco Zola did more than any other Chelsea player to boost the Stamford Bridge club’s rise to the top. The Chelsea memorabilia on sale at Sports Idols is perfectly balanced, bringing the history of the club into play alongside its current success.

Fans of the Big Four, this year, will be watching rather nervously over their shoulders (and, in some cases, already looking up with some concern at the retreating backs of newcomers) as other teams make their bid to end the four way supremacy of these British football institutions. Their loyalty, though, will never waver – a fact that is clearly evident in the continuing strong sales of Manchester United memorabilia, Liverpool memorabilia, Arsenal memorabilia and Chelsea memorabilia from the site. One has to wonder, though, whether next season might not see a few more teams breaking into the coveted top spots in the sports memorabilia stakes. Arsenal fans might recoil in horror at the thought, but their arch rivals from just across the way in North London might even be among them....
