Press Release   •   Nov 03, 2010 15:37 GMT

Tesco Clubcard customers can double the value of their vouchers to spend on a huge range of non-food items at the supermarket, under a new Big Clubcard Voucher Exchange. Launching on Monday 8 November, the scheme will last until Sunday 5 December.

With double points already enjoyed by shoppers, this additional promotion enables millions of shoppers to gain discounts in selected departments over the four week promotion that would have usually taken them twice as long to save for!

New products introduced in time for Christmas include Tesco’s Finest wine and Finest Champagne and computers such as the latest must-have gadget, the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Customers can also make savings on artificial Christmas trees and Christmas lights. Clothing and toys are also expected to be a big hit with customers looking for Christmas time treats.

Launching just as members start to receive their November statement, Tesco expects that some £50 million in Clubcard vouchers will be doubled by shoppers into a whopping £100 million in value. The second Big Clubcard Voucher Exchange scheme has also been re-vamped since August so that customers can now exchange their vouchers online*if they are planning to spend their rewards tokens online.

Carolyn Bradley, Tesco’s UK Marketing Director said: “In the lead up to Christmas, this promotion provides our Clubcard members with a great way to make savings on simple everyday products through to stocking fillers and even those big gifts for under the tree. For Tesco, it’s our way of saying a huge thank you to our customers and with the broad range of items included, we’re confident that this Big Exchange will have mass appeal.”

Customers who have saved their Clubcard vouchers from previous statements can use these to take part in the scheme also so long as they are still in date.

And customers will still be able to redeem and spend their Clubcard vouchers in the usual way such as on partner rewards if they don’t want to participate in The Big Clubcard Voucher Exchange.

How The Big Clubcard Voucher Exchange works:

There are two different minimum exchange values – either £5 or £10 in Clubcard vouchers, depending on the department you opt to spend in. Customers can only exchange multiples of £5 or £10 worth of Clubcard vouchers for rewards tokens however any number of reward tokens can be used in a transaction. Customers don’t need an exact £5 or £10 voucher – they can make it up with smaller value vouchers too e.g. £2 + £2 +£1 = £5. Any change will be credited to the customer’s Clubcard account in points.

The exchange can be done in store at the signposted desk (excluding Tesco Express), where the assistant will exchange them for rewards tokens to spend in your chosen department, this will look like a till receipt. Customers can also exchange online at tesco.com/clubcard if they plan to spend their rewards token online at tesco.com/direct, tesco.com/clothing and tesco.com/wine.

There are 13 categories to choose from:

Every £5 in Clubcard vouchers can be exchanged for a £10 rewards token to spend on: Toys; Clothing; Baby and toddler; Opticians; Selected electricals, Beauty and fragrance; Flowers and plants.

Every £10 in Clubcard vouchers can be exchanged for a £20 rewards token to spend on: Artificial Christmas trees and Christmas lights; Finest wine and Finest Champagne; Beds, bedroom furniture and bedding; DIY; Computers; Phones and accessories.

Customers need to have exchanged their Clubcard vouchers and redeemed their rewards tokens for The Big Clubcard Voucher exchange by 5 December 2010. More information can be obtained at www.tesco.com/clubcard from Monday 8 November by clicking on The Big Clubcard Voucher Exchange logo.
