The managing director of a call centre specialising in telephone contact with older consumers is calling for employers to look at the benefits of employing workers beyond retirement age.
MIke Bingham, managing director of Midlands-based Senior Response, says, "The Ageing Population is bringing it's own problems and issues but on the positive side, research has shown that the older we get, the more we prefer to deal with empathetic people our own age, whether in shops or on the telephone. So big retailers, financial services companies and utilities with big call centres who are in regular contact with older people should be looking at candidates in their 50s and 60s. Many people in this age group are looking for work, either through necessity as pensions shrink in value or desire because they simply do not want to stop working."
"The Baby Boomers are the only people spending at the moment and I am amazed that very few companies are following our lead and recruiting the best people to communicate with this important market segment - other Baby Boomers!"
Senior Response Limited is a call centre company, based in Solihull. Established in 2001, it employs over 50 mature workers and works for many blue chip companies, promoting products and services to "grey market" consumers in the UK
