Unless you have been living on another planet for the last few weeks, you will no doubt have heard about the new iPhone 4S. Building on the stellar reputation of the iPhone 4, Apple has enhanced its spec list even further, but kept the same classic design.
If you are already an iPhone 4 user, you can use this article to decide whether or not you should upgrade to the new version, as I will look at some of the upgrades found in the iPhone 4S.
The original iPhone 4 has a 5 megapixel camera, and as expected by most, the iPhone 4S provide an upgrade in both the pixel count and the video capture quality. Operating at 8 megapixels, with a resolution of 3264x 2448, the camera captures images in much better quality than before. All the extras you would expect are included; face detection, touch focus and image stabilization, so it remains easy to use. Onto video capture, and the quality has been boosted from 720p to 1080p, which is full high definition.
The iPhone 4S comes with a dual-core Apple A5 processor, which essentially packs twice the power of the 1 GHz chip in the iPhone 4. The advantages of dual-core processors are becoming better known by the masses, with an increasing number of new smartphones incorporating this technology. The processor provides more computing power, which equates to improved performance in several aspects of the phone’s operation. It also allows multitasking to be carried out more efficiently.
An all-new feature which is exclusive to the iPhone 4S is the much publicised “Siri” application, which is a voice activated personal assistant. It works by utilizing all the applications at its disposal to carry out tasks and answer questions which the user commands simply by talking to the phone. The phone will respond with an answer and provide all necessary information on the screen or displaying any relevant information. It can carry out everyday tasks such as setting reminders or sending messages in any format, to web searches, and indeed answering questions. It can use applications already on the phone to carry out tasks; so considering that maps, internet, emails, calendars and messages are just the tip of the iceberg, the potential of Siri becomes apparent.
What’s The Same?
Many people were expecting an iPhone 5 from Apple’s recent keynote speech when the iPhone 4S was officially unveiled. To the surprise of many, the handset looks identical to it’s predecessor. To most people, this is not a bad thing, as the design of the iPhone 4 was one of its most celebrated aspects. Another feature which has also been kept is the “retina display”. This is the touchscreen with a resolution so high, that the individual pixels cannot be made out by the naked eye.
There is so much more that I could cover in this article, but I have highlighted some of the more noteworthy changes and indeed differences that you should know about if you are thinking about getting your hands on the iPhone 4S.
