Thule, world leader within sports and utility transportation, is pleased to announce that Gordon Walker – a member of the Thule Adventure Team – was crowned World Champion winner (men’s category) along with team member Elina Ussher, World Champion winner (women’s category), in the highly-competitive Speight’s Coast to Coast multi-sport competition held in New Zealand 12th – 13th February, 2010. Over the course of two days, competitors cycled 140 kms, ran 36 kms and kayaked 67 kms in New Zealand’s rugged outback.
With over 800 competitors vieing for places in the Coast to Coast race, it was stiff competition for the Thule Adventure Team who also had to endure difficult weather conditions. Due to heavy rainfall, the course was diverted and this last minute change made the race even more challenging for the competitors. Despite this modification, vetran multi-sport champion Elina Ussher began the race with a considerable lead and team-mate Gordon Walker competed against Dougal Allen – an impressive young athlete – before finally upstaging him in the last leg of the kayaking race. Multi-sport athlete Martin Flinta also participated in the competition and came in 4th place.
The Thule Adventure Team’s double win at the Coast to Coast race was an amazing start for the newly formed team who will go on to prepare for the upcoming MTB competition Baise challenge, China. Renowned multi-sport athlete Richard Ussher will also participate in the competition and will join the team to compete in the race.
