Tougher requirements for agricultural and forestry machinery on public roads favors Rydahls

Press Release   •   Feb 26, 2013 10:10 GMT

Rydahls has recently seen a significant rising trend in requests concerning brake systems for agricultural and forestry machinery that run on public roads. Today there are tougher safety requirements for vehicles, which also results in higher demands on the brake system. The safety requirements are set at a national level.

Various safety requirements of brake systems in the EU
Most off road vehicles and machines that are connected to eg tractors must be equipped with brakes by law when operating on public roads. However, there are very different opinions among EU countries on the safety requirements to apply for the brake system which has resulted in the fact that as yet no really good European standard developed. It is also difficult to interpret the requirements that exist today, and there are many exceptions that apply to specific countries. France has, however, from 1 January 2013 set higher standards and reorganized into its legislation. Rydahls works with this type of problems and issues daily and serves to create the proper construction of the brake system for each country.

The right skills in the right place
- Our customers are good at their work which is to build machinery with the main purpose to plow the fields, spread fertilizer or sowing seeds. Therefore we are the partner who specializes in brake systems and brings out the requirements and details needed for the machinery to be operating on public roads in the country. We have the necessary skills and have several references on similar work in the past, says Anders Jorholm at Rydahls.

Brake system in limited area
A common situation that Rydahls often deal with is that the machinery already is designed and constructed to look a certain way and is already in the production phase. This makes the space available to add a brake system very limited. The challenge is to find the right components that can fit and is flexible to the narrow space which it should be placed in. At the same time it needs to meet the national brake safety requirements.
