Last Saturday, Tropical, a brand of Compañía Cervecera de Canarias, gathered a total of 20,500 plastic cups in the World of Music Arts and Dance (Womad) Festival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the firm arranged a drop-off area for the public where they could exchange plastic cups for presents.

With this measure, Tropical, the official sponsor of the event, wanted to promote the recycling of plastic cups among the festivalgoers, as well as help in the cleanup of the premises where the festival took place.

The initiative had a good reception from the public, exceeding the initial expectations of 20,000 units. This way, in exchange for the plastic cups, a total of 3,600 T-shirts specially designed for the sixteenth edition of the festival and 500 straw hats were given away to the festivalgoers.

Also, Tropical's support for Womad 2011 translated into two parades carried out in the Triana area, as well as Mesa y López Avenue and Las Canteras Avenue, last Friday and Saturday in order to liven up the main streets of the city before the musical event. The parades were followed with great enthusiasm by the public.

With this initiative, Tropical has pledged again its commitment to the cultural offerings in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and especially to festivals such as Womad.
