The blog search and enterprise social media service company Twingly launched a social aggregation tool called Twingly Channels in 2009. Today they release an update of the tool that changes the focus from social aggregation towards group communication and microblogging.
Last year Twingly had a strong focus on sales which resulted into reaching break-even, a healthy long-term goal for the company. During 2010 development efforts were made to Twingly Live and Twingly Liveboard, two real-time services that became popular among event organizers and media. By developing services like Twingly Live and Twingly Channels the company are exploring how they could develop tools for social conversations both for consumers and businesses.
With the release this week, the main view in a Channel is the Conversation view, showing all messages and comments among the members of the Channel. The link aggregation view is still present and very useful but is no longer the main view, this turns Twingly.com into a group microblogging tool rather than a RSS aggregation tool. A Channel on Twingly.com is like a discussion forum where the messages you post can be long or short however the user likes it.
