Karen Webb, Project Director at Visit London since September 2009, is one of the first three appointments to be made to the Olympic Park Legacy Company’s Executive Management team.

At Visit London, Karen led on initial work on a Major Event Strategy for the Park, and in her new capacity as Director of Marketing and Communications at the Olympic Park Legacy Company she will be responsible for the overall positioning and promotion of the Olympic Park. Karen will continue to work closely with Visit London advising on planning for the 2012 games.

OPLC Chief Executive, Andrew Altman said “Olympic Park will be at the centre of London’s growth, a dynamic metropolitan hub for the City and a catalyst for the regeneration of East London. We need to ensure Olympic Park is a “must see, must return” destination and we need to have an exceptional and experienced individual driving the marketing portfolio.

“I am delighted to announce Karen’s appointment, she has had an impressive and exciting career and her broad experience of working with world-leading brands and events is a significant boost to our organisation and for the extensive opportunities ahead for OIympic Park.”

Karen was previously a Director of a London-based sports business consultancy, having moved to the UK, in 2008, from the International Olympic Committee where she was Vice President Image and Marketing Communications for eight years.

Prior to that, Karen headed up Marketing Communications for the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. She has also held marketing, communications and corporate affairs roles within the Australian TV and drinks’ industries.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity and I am more than thrilled to have landed this role,” said Karen.

“Olympic Park is one of the most exciting regeneration projects in Europe and needs to be marketed to the community, to Londoners, to visitors and of course to investors – the role’s portfolio is extensive and the opportunity overwhelming.”

Karen will take up her appointment at the beginning of February.
