Zurich moves up the Sunday Times Top 25 Big Companies to Work For in 2012

Press release   •   Mar 05, 2012 14:45 GMT

For the third year running, Zurich has earned a place in the Sunday Times Top 25 Big Companies to Work For – widely recognised as the UK’s definitive survey of workplace satisfaction.

And it has improved its position again from 20th in 2011 to 17th in 2012. Overall, Zurich’s results show improvements in each of the eight areas measured by the survey.

This follows an in-depth look at the company, including an extensive, independent survey of over 1,000 employees who gave their opinion on what it is like to work for Zurich. Those opinions were compared against other large organisations and the top 25 companies made it to the final list.

Zurich secured two additional awards in the categories ‘Giving Something Back’ and ‘Personal Growth’, singling out the company’s Corporate Responsibility activities and its Learning & Development (L&D) function.

The Zurich Community Trust, the charitable arm of Zurich funded by the UK business and generous donations from employees in the UK, supports more than 600 charities each year. Last year, Zurich's employees donated £521,300 to support the programme as well as 5916 days of volunteering. Zurich is also one of the pioneer Business In The Community CommunityMark companies, a standard representing excellence in community investment.

The collaboration between Zurich’s Community Trust and Zurich’s L&D function seeks to link community involvement with the personal development of our employees. Employees at any level wanting to develop their organising and team leadership skills are able to do so by taking the lead role in a team challenge or can hone their technical and consulting skills by offering their services free of charge to local charities via Zurich’s Skillshare programme.

Peter Campbell, UK HR Director at Zurich said:
“The Sunday Times Best Companies list is the one in which every large organisation wants to appear. Achieving a place on the list for the third year running is a fantastic result and further endorsement of the actions we are taking to position Zurich as an Employer of Choice. Our improved position reflects the amazing efforts our employees put into making Zurich a great place to work and their continued commitment to sharing the success of the business for the benefit of the community”.

One of the most innovative tools in Zurich’s corporate responsibility programme is ‘My Community Starter’ (mycommunitystarter.co.uk), which provides helpful advice to people or small groups who would like to get involved in simple, straightforward community activities.
