May 16, 2013 10:48 BST Tomorrow is Spinal Cord Injuries Day, a national day to raise awareness of the life changing effects of Spinal Cord Injury. Every Eight Hours someone is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It could happen to any of us at any time as a result of accident or illness.

Redevelopment plans for the RNOH, Stanmore

Mar 29, 2013 15:39 GMT Aspire’s head office and the National Training Centre are based on the site of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. For years, the hospital has been working on getting planning permission for a complete redevelopment of the site to improve facilities and bring it up to date. Last week, Harrow Council gave the go ahead for exciting plans for a £98million rebuild.

Feb 12, 2013 11:24 GMT In 2012, Aspire discovered that eligibility criteria for new patients requesting powered wheelchairs in Newham had changed. Residents were expected to use the higher rate mobility component of their Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to access the Motability Scheme to lease their own powered wheelchair, even when they had been medically assessed as needing one.

InstructAbility for injured sports players and Marines

Jan 09, 2013 15:39 GMT A brand new InstructAbility course designed to train disabled people as fitness instructors started in Twickenham last week. The course, run by Aspire and YMCAfit, is being hosted at the Twickenham Rugby Football Union (RFU) stadium and the students have the exciting opportunity to train in the stadium’s own fitness gym used by England rugby players.
