Deschamps’ Marseille a red-hot bet against struggling Inter Milan

Feb 21, 2012 14:59 GMT

LONDON. Claudio Ranieri will hope that history doesn’t repeat itself when he faces Didier Deschamps in a Champions League knockout challenge again this Wednesday.

The Inter Milan manager is in a San Siro hot-seat after a dismal run in February and Marseille is a popular bet at 2.20 to win the match on home soil with online bookmaker Betclic.com.

- It looks like the punters have lost faith in Inter Milan and Marseille are heavily backed in this clash, says Dan Vikman, PR Manager at Betclic.com.

Back in 2004, Claudio Ranieri coached Chelsea, at the start of the big spending Roman Abramovich era and they where the bookies favourite to beat AS Monaco in the semi-final.

Didier Deschamps was then the coach at AS Monaco and they took Chelsea by surprise beating them 5-3 on aggregate. Soon Ranieri departed as the boss at Stamford Bridge and a failure to go through against Marseille could open the exit door at Inter Milan too. His club have lost five of their last six game in Italy and are at risk of losing out on a Champions League spot next season.

- Marseille pays 2.25 to go through with Betclic from the two-legged affair and that could prove to be a high-value bet if the French club get a good result in the first match.

Inter Milan pays 1.58 to go through and although they undoubtedly have the experience to make it, the form speaks against the Nerazzurri.

Claudio Ranieri might find the shrewd tactician Didier Deschamps too hard to handle once again.

The odds at Betclic.com:

1X2
Marseille   2,20   X   3,25   Inter   3,20

Go through
Inter Milan - Marseille 1,58  2,25
