The 40 000th registered user on the BIMobject® Portal!

The increasing number of registered users on the BIMobject® Portal is just stunning. We will share a story on each 10 000th professional user to register.

Pedro Clarke is a Project Architect for the award winning Lyall, Bills & Young Architects, in London, UK, as well as being involved, in a private capacity, on a series of architecture and participatory projects in developing countries and emerging contexts. The work of Lyall, Bills & Young Architects covers a variety of sectors, from education to mixed used developments, to infrastructure and residential.
 
Lyall, Bills & Young Architects have recently started running BIM on their projects and in order to save time and assist with detailing and specification found the BIMobject® Portal an incredibly powerful resource. Being able to download entire libraries of objects, from reputable manufacturers, is a great asset for different projects.

What’s your experience of using the BIMobject® Portal?

- I have found the BIMobject® website incredibly easy to use. We have just started using ArchiCAD and it has been really easy to browse through the website and search for products/objects that we can then use and customise for our projects.


What manufacturers would you like to see featured on the BIMobject® Portal?

- More rain screen/cladding products, from companies like Kingspan, Hunter Douglas, CGL, would be quite useful. As would brick suppliers, door suppliers e.g. Leaderflush and products from lighting companies like Zumtobel. Ideally we’d like to see all suppliers starting to produce objects that a site like BIMobject® could collate and make this a good resource for architects and other designers.


Do you think we could do anything to improve the BIMobject® Portal?


- Not sure if this is something that is already being done, but support for small manufacturers, helping them to produce their own BIM objects, would be a great idea. Small companies would definitely want to take this up, so that they can compete with some of the larger companies. Also reading some of the news items on your website I have become aware of an app or add-on that can be installed in ArchiCAD and that allows us to link directly to your libraries, this is something we will definitely be looking to explore.
