BT will be at the heart of the action as a partner to the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series in Portsmouth on 22-24 July, and is encouraging sports fans to take action to help create a more sustainable world.

BT will host an interactive fan experience in Portsmouth, called the BT 100% Sport zone, and encourage people in the Race Village and online to commit and to share their stories about living, working and playing more sustainably.

The BT 100% Sport zone is a family-friendly area accessible to everyone attending the America’s Cup Race Village. It tells the story of the global 100% Sport initiative that BT and Sir Ben Ainslie launched in 2015 to inspire sports fans to take action for a more sustainable world.

The BT 100% Sport zone will also host the Power Challenge, giving fans the chance to see how they might fare in the America’s Cup, where the energy is 100 per cent generated by the crew. Supporters will have the chance to compare their scores to the professionals on the leader board. Visitors can show their commitment for a better world in the BT 100% Sport photo booth and add these to the #go100percent conversation online straight away.

The BT 100% Sport zone illustrates how technology is helping Land Rover BAR (Ben Ainslie Racing) train and race. The zone includes a replica of the Land Rover BAR AC45 catamaran’s wingsail and visitors will get to speak to experts who will explain how it works. Sailing fans can also see the full size foil tips and get to understand how they make the catamaran fly out of the water.

Niall Dunne, BT’s chief sustainability officer, said: “BT is delighted to have such a presence at this great sporting occasion. We’re committed to helping our customers live and work more sustainably and want to use the America’s Cup World Series in Portsmouth to spread the 100% Sport message and get everyone involved.”

“BT has spearheaded the 100% Sport campaign since launching it with Sir Ben Ainslie last year. Our commitments as Technology in Sustainability partner for Land Rover BAR builds on our work to help make the planet fit for the future. Now we are urging sports fans to think and act sustainably on a local level and share how they will #go100percent to make a better world.”

BT is committed to helping the team bring the America’s Cup home, whilst setting the standard for sustainability in sport. BT works with Land Rover BAR using new technologies to provide performance analysis to ‘Mission Control’ at the team’s HQ in Portsmouth.

The remote technology significantly reduces the number of people needed on the water during practice and races. This in turn reduces Land Rover BAR’s travel footprint, helping them in their aim to be one of the most sustainable sports teams in the world. The technology also increases the speed at which the performance analysis teams can receive and process data.

BT Sport is the exclusive UK broadcast partner for the event and will show live coverage for all events in the 35th America’s Cup, including the opening races in Portsmouth through to the finals in Bermuda in 2017.
