Tillicoultry’s going superfast thanks to Digital Scotland

Thousands of homes and businesses in Tillicoultry are now able to connect to high-speed fibre broadband thanks to the £410m Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme.

Councillor Bobby McGill, of Clackmannanshire Council, welcomed its arrival at a special launch event on the town’s High Street on Wednesday. He joined the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband team to unveil one of the new fibre street cabinets that will serve part of the town.

Cllr. McGill said: He said: “It was a pleasure to join members from Digital Scotland to announce more fibre broadband in Tillicoultry. It's good to see this project reaching more communities and giving an increasing number of homes and businesses the opportunity to connect to high-speed broadband. We’re determined to make sure that everyone in Clackmannanshire has access to digital services – and the skills and confidence to go online and use them.”

Sara Budge, Programme Director for Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband, said: “It’s exciting news to hear that fibre broadband is available to homes and businesses in Tillicoultry, thanks to the programme. It was great to have Councillor McGill joining the programme today to welcome its arrival.

“Good progress has been made, with six new cabinets in and around Tillicoultry going live in the last 9 months, with more to follow.”

BT is investing £126m in the Digital Scotland rollout, with engineers from Openreach, its local network division, delivering the project on the ground.

Mark Dames, BT Scotland’s head of policy and public affairs, said: “Once people sign up with a service provider, they can explore the multiple benefits of a fast and reliable internet connection for both home and business use.

“Residents can check Digital Scotland’s interactive online map to find out if fibre services are available to them now, or sign up to the programme’s newsletter to get notified.”
