Press release -

Can you help manage Bury’s Great Run Local?

Free weekly 2k and 5k races aim to get the great Bury public moving in the Great Run Local.

Runners of all abilities will be able to take part in the races, enjoying exercise, a social occasion or even training for another event.

The Great Run Local is being planned by Bury Council’s sport and physical activity service for later
this year, but before then they need to recruit enthusiastic sportsmen and women to help manage and co-ordinate the event.

They need:

Event co-ordinator; responsible for overseeing all aspects of the GRL event; not required to be in attendance at all GRL events but is the point of contact for the event and coordinates the volunteers.

5km co-ordinator; responsible for starting the 5km run and tagging all 5km participants as they finish; setting up and de-rigging the 5km start and finish zone.

2km co-ordinator; responsible for starting the 2km run and tagging all 2km participants as they finish; setting up and de-rigging the 5km start and finish zone.

Course marshalls (x 6): placed near areas of risk, turn around signs, and where it may be required to complete a lap.

British Red Cross trained first aiders (x 2): positioned at the start and finish and on the course.

Everyone is welcome to volunteer, run or do both. To express your interest, visit http://greatrunlocal.org/volunteer
