Candidates announced for Bury Council and European elections

A total of 75 candidates are standing in the Bury Council elections which take place on Thursday 22 May.

One-third of the council’s 51 seats will be decided at this poll. Labour and Conservative candidates are contesting all 17 seats, and the Liberal Democrats 15. There are also Green, English Democrat and UK Independence Party candidates standing across the borough.

Two sitting councillors will not be defending their seats at these elections: Ken Audin (Besses) and Ann Audin (Unsworth).

The current line-up on Bury Council is: Labour 35, Conservative 13, Liberal Democrat 2, and Independent 1.

The Euro elections take place on the same day as the local elections (Thursday 22 May). Eleven political parties will contest these elections to choose the North West of England’s eight Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).

For a full list of Bury and European candidates, go to http://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=8598 and download the documents on the right.

Anyone who wishes to have a postal or a proxy vote must ask for one by Wednesday 7 May.

For all enquiries, call 0161 253 5252 or email electionservices@bury.gov.uk

The Bury Council elections will be counted on Friday 23 May, and the North West European Parliamentary elections count will take place on Sunday 25 May, as polls close across Europe.
