Press release -

Car seat clinics to keep your children safe

Parents are invited to attend a child car seat clinic run by road safety officers at Bury Council.

There are two clinics: on Tuesday 14 July at Asda Pilsworth, and on Friday 17 July at Asda Bury, both from 10.30am to 3pm.

Officers say that parents often do not know which of the many types of child car seat to choose, or how to fit the seat correctly. These sessions will give them advice, and experts from Child Car Seat Safety Ltd will also be there to check that child car seats are fitted correctly, which can give parents real peace of mind.

The council has held six car seat clinics in the last three years. Of the 287 car seats inspected, 158 (55%) were found to be incorrectly fitted, incompatible for the child or vehicle, and therefore required adjustment or advice on which type of restraint to purchase.

Jan Brabin, senior road safety officer at Bury Council, said: “In-car safety is important for all ages, but vital for babies and children who are particularly vulnerable due to the dimensions of their body and the lack of relevant support in vehicles. Events like these can make a real difference to supporting parents and improving safety.”
