Christmas cheer for youngsters in need

Press release -

Christmas cheer for youngsters in need

Children across the borough were given a happier Christmas thanks to council staff and the generosity of local businesses and organisations.

A mountain of donated gifts was distributed to young people and care leavers by staff in Bury’s Children and Young People in Care team.

They also received food hampers from Bury Porch Box service, a large number of toys from Key 103 through its Christmas Toy Appeal, and toys and beauty products from staff at Pilsworth-based L’Oreal.

Sue Harris, Children and Young People in Care team manager, said: “The quantity and quality of donations this year, from local companies, churches and individuals, has been the highest ever.

“Our base at Higher Lane was a hive of activity, with presents piled high. Our social workers were working like Santa’s elves to make sure that vulnerable and isolated young people were delivered gifts most appropriate to their circumstances.

“Our grateful thanks go to everyone who generously donated items and ensured that our less fortunate children received a Christmas gift this year.”
