Death of former Mayor of Bury, Paul Nesbit

Condolences have been sent to the family of Paul Nesbit, former Mayor of Bury, who died on Sunday (20 Sep).

Mr Nesbit was elected in 1992 to represent the Sedgley ward in Prestwich, and served as a councillor until 2004, being mayor in 2001/02.

He was chair of Prestwich Area Board and was president of Prestwich Carnival Committee, as well as serving on a number of committees and external bodies.

His funeral was held yesterday (Monday 21 Sep) at Philips Park Cemetery in Whitefield.

Councillor Stella Smith, the Mayor of Bury, said: “I was saddened to hear of Paul’s death, as he served the borough with distinction. My sympathies go to his friends and family, to whom the council sends its condolences.”
