‘Dragons’ breathe fire into Radcliffe community health projects

Seven local groups in Radcliffe have won funding for health projects after impressing a ‘Dragon’s Den’ of judges.

The money was awarded under the Our Place initiative, which aims to improve health and wellbeing in the town through projects that are led by the community.

The ‘dragons’ comprised a range of community representatives and members of the public. Following presentations from 12 groups, they voted on which groups should be awarded a total of £7,000.

The seven successful groups, and their projects, are:

  • Early Break – Early Intervention Assertive Outreach
  • Radcliffe Town Carnival Committee – Radcliffe Carnival
  • Chapelfield Village Association – Healthy Walking Leaflet
  • Trinity Baptist Church – Community Health Project
  • St Mary’s Parish Church – Lunch Club and Befriending Scheme
  • Red Bank Independent Living Scheme – Exercises Classes
  • Cams Lane Primary School – Gardening/Planting Project

Colin Jones, chair of Radcliffe Township Forum, said: “I’d like to say ‘well done’ to all those involved and thank them for the good work they all do. For those who were not successful, I know officers are keen to work with them to offer support. Everybody’s presentation was so excellent it was so hard for people to choose!”

Councillor Sharon Briggs, forum vice-chair, added: “We were all blown away by the quality of bids and the excellent work local community groups are undertaking day in and day out in Radcliffe. They are all our local heroes.”

Anyone interested in becoming involved in the Our Place work and the work of Radcliffe Township Forum can contact Christine Maskymowski, township co-ordinator, on 0161 253 7941.
