Elmhurst modernised to become ‘hotel-style’ short stay service

A modern bistro dining area, a hair and beauty salon, contemporary ‘wet room’ style en-suites.

These are typical features of most luxury hotels, and soon they will be available to all customers of the Elmhurst Short Stay Service in Whitefield, thanks to major development work being undertaken.

The works are being done in three phases, with the first phase due to be completed by the end of November - however, senior members of the council have been given a sneak preview. Despite the magnitude of the work, Elmhurst services have continued to remain operational with minimal disruption to customers.

Councillor Rishi Shori, cabinet member for adult care, health and housing, said: “I was very impressed by what I saw. This development will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the local community. Short stay services are vital in helping to sustain carers and enabling people to remain in their own homes for longer. Elmhurst will contribute to the council’s overall aim to help people maintain their independence and is something of which we can all be proud.

"I am also delighted that a local firm of builders, F Parkinson Limited, is carrying out the refurbishment work which is helping to boost the local economy.

“I am looking forward to visiting Elmhurst when the refurbishment is complete.”
