Five days left in Stoptober – still time to join up

Smokers across Bury have been contacting Bury Lifestyle Service to take advantage of their expert help to quit tobacco during Stoptober.

The service is free and confidential, with a team of health trainers and advisors who offer one-to-one support for people who either live, work or study in Bury or are registered with a Bury GP.

Darryl Ormerod is the latest example of someone who has managed to successfully quit smoking this Stoptober.

Mr Ormerod, aged 38 from Bury, was inspired by his children to quit smoking and seek support from Bury Lifestyle Service. He said: “My children are everything to me and I want to be around to see them progress through school, college and life.”

He praised Bury Lifestyle Service for the support he had received over a number of weeks, and his advisor Austin: “I admire how he didn't only help me understand the implications of what damage smoking can do but he made me understand what impacts it could make on my family.

“I would highly commend Austin and the service provided to me to enable me to stop smoking. It’s a shame that three months passed so fast, as I will miss speaking to Austin.”

Darryl was also presented with a certificate to show his children and celebrate his achievement.

Figures show that you are four times more likely to quit smoking with support.

Bury Lifestyle Service offers one-to-one support in more than 40 venues throughout Bury, with appointments available during the day, evenings and weekends.

The service also provides personalised support in the following areas: eating healthier and managing your weight, improving your sleep, drinking sensibly, self-managing your medical condition, and improving your overall health and well being.
